Mpox Town Halls
VDH is hosting three regional virtual town halls about mpox in June, and weβd like your help spreading the word.Β We are looking for community members to participate and share their feedback on VDHβs mpox efforts.
What will be included in the town halls:
Presentations, Q&A, and a discussion forum between panelists and audience members.Β A focus on the back-and-forth discussion, where the moderator asks questions to hear participantsβ feedback on VDHβs mpox outreach efforts, will be the highlight.
Who should participate:
Individuals who have or could have been impacted in any way by mpox communication, prevention, vaccination, and other outreach efforts by VDH.
Dates of the town halls:
June 4, 2024, from 5:30-7:00pm for Northwest and Northern Virginia
June 11, 2024, from 5:30β7:00pm for Central and Eastern Virginia
June 25, 2024, from 5:30β7:00pm for Southwest Virginia
How you can help spread the word:
Please share the attached flyer via email to your community contacts, and post copies in your local health department lobbies, exam rooms, interview rooms and other prominent places.Β Print and place on tables or magazine racks in lobbies or hallways.Β Let people know they can register by using the QR card on the flyer or via this link to our mpox town hall webpage.Β If you have questions, please reply to this email, or contact Wyatt Johnson at wyatt.johnson@vdh.virginia.gov.

REVIVE! Community Event
Southside Health District, in conjunction with Southside Medical Reserve Corps and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services bring you a new community event! Attendees will learn to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, respond to an opioid emergency, and administer naloxone.Β

Hampton & Peninsula Community Event
On May 7, in partnership with the City of Newport Newsβ EMS CARES Team, Project LEAD (HPHDβs substance use program), distributed naloxone, drug testing strips, harm reduction resource kits, and more goodies out directly to high-risk populations in our community. They provided rapid REVIVE! and connected individuals to care. We are incredibly proud of their work.Β

βοΈ What: The Eastern Shore CSB will be collaborating with local law enforcement to present a Fentanyl Public Forum, "One Pill Can Kill."Β
SA Edward Logan (DEA) and ASAC Patrick Hartig (DEA) will present the "One Pill Can Kill" campaign (45-60 min).Β
SA Robert Barnes (ESDTF) will speak briefly as to what the Eastern Shore Drug Task Force is doing in relation to the Fentanyl outbreak.Β
Sheriff David Doughty will announce the partnering with public agencies and police departments to curtail the flow of Fentanyl throughout the county.Β
Members of the Eastern Shore Community Services Board will provide information on service and prevention programs.Β
The Northampton County Health Department will be allotted time to speak and possibly providing Narcan to be used in case of Fentanyl overdoses.

βοΈ What: The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) has created a Fentanyl Facts infographic describing fentanyl overdose trends and resources in the Fairfax Health District. This infographic will be displayed on the FCHD website, as well as digitally on television screens at District Office clinics, in observance of Fentanyl Awareness Day on May 7. In addition, FCHD is planning to place laminated physical copies of the infographic (in multiple languages including Spanish) at our District Office clinics, the Homeless Healthcare Program in homeless shelters, and community partner locations.
