“I Believe In Me—Happy, Healthy and Drug Free!”

Monroe showed their Red Ribbon Spirit by dressing up throughout the week of October 26-October 30. Below is how we celebrated each day:

Monday, October 26: Wild About Being Healthy and Drug Free!

· Crazy Hair Day! Students showing their RRW spirit by having crazy hair will get a sticker.

· Red Ribbons are passed out to all students. Wear your ribbon everyday!

· Students may sign the drug free pledge and write their name on the red “link” during their morning meetings.

· We “CAN” be drug free!! Start collecting cans for the Share Your Shelf canned food drive! Class who collects the most will get a PIZZA PARTY! Our goal is 100 cans per class!

· Art or Essay Contest—If your students would like to participate, there is a state-wide art or essay contest. The theme is “Respect Yourself. Be Drug Free.” (11” x 17” poster or 250 word essay)

· Classrooms will start working on the door decoration contest!

Tuesday, October 27: Sock-it to Drugs!

· Wear mismatched socks (and wear your red ribbon)! Students showing their RRW spirit will get a sticker.

· Continue bringing your cans for the canned food drive!

Wednesday, October 28: Team Up Against Drugs!

· Wear team jerseys (and your red ribbon)! Students showing their RRW spirit will get a sticker.

· Continue bringing your cans for the canned food drive!

Thursday, October 29: Celebrate Red Ribbon Week!

· Wear red (and your red ribbon)! Students showing their RRW spirit will get a sticker.

· Continue bringing your cans for the canned food drive!

Friday, October 30: Scare Away Drugs!

· Wear your Halloween costume for Fall Parties and wear your red ribbon!

· Last day to bring your cans for the canned food drive!

· Door decoration contest winners will be announced at Good Morning Monroe!

We had some really great door decorations this year! The winners for Red Ribbon Week 2014 were: First Place-- Ms. Tomlinson's class; Second Place-- Ms. Thai's class; Third Place-- Mrs. Warren's class. Congrats!!

Ms. Tomlinson's 1st Place Door tied together our canned food drive-- so creative!

Ms. Thai's 2nd Place Door had a spooky Halloween theme, included artwork made by the students, and many great ideas of how to stay healthy!

Mrs. Warren's 3rd Place Door took up the wall AND the door! And included child-made artwork!

5th Grade graphed all the reasons they want to be drug free.

I Believe in ME Drug-Free!!

Monroe showed their Red Ribbon Spirit by dressing up throughout the week of

October 29-November 2. Below is how we celebrated each day:

  • Monday, October 29: Put a Cap on Drugs (interesting hats)
  • Tuesday, October 30: I'm Voting for my Future-- I'm Drug Free (red, white, and blue)
  • Wednesday, October 31: Say BOO to Drugs (Halloween costume)
  • Thursday, November 1: Team Up Against Drugs (team jerseys)
  • Friday, November 2: Celebrate Red Ribbon Week (red clothing)

During October Guidance each student at Monroe decorated a "quilt square" to help create a "Monroe is quilted together against drugs" Quilt. The final product was pretty incredible!

During Red Ribbon Week, students signed a Healthy Lifestyle pledge by writing their name on a piece of paper. We link all of these pieces of paper together to form chains that were hung up all over Monroe to show that Monroe is commited to a drug-free and healthy life!

We also had a door decoration contest. We sure have some creative Mustangs!! The winners were announced in Good Morning Monroe-- congratulations to all of our winners and a big thank you to everyone that decorated a door this year!
