What is paraphrasing?

According to the Back Student Learning Tools website (n.d.) the Paraphrasing writing technique involves putting a part of a text from a source material but using the reader’s own words.

How to do it?

Goldrick (2017) suggests the following the next steps when using this writing strategy.

• First, read a paragraph from the article which the reader is interested in or is using for writing a paper.
• Next, she suggests to make notes about the most important idea or ideas presented in the paragraph. The author recommends to make these notes in a bullet list rather than in sentences. This is to be focused on the key aspects of the text.
• Finally, it will be ideal that the read puts away the article away and use the bullet notes for explaining the most important ideas to someone else.
