Skimming is a strategy that can be taught to help students to identify the main or secondary ideas in a text. (Alcalde, R; n.d.)
This is very useful when a student have to discriminate whether if a text will be useful or not for a specific purpose, for example when looking for sources for a research project.
This technique allows students to read the heading, titles, subheadings and illustrations with captions, as well as the first and last paragraph of a text, which are used to be the most important of a text.
