Scanning is a skill that allows to search for key words, concepts or ideas. It is very usual that if a student is using this technique he or she knows exactly what he/she is looking for. (Alcalde, R; n.d.)
How to do it?

When a student is asked to find specific information, the process will be to move the eyes quickly through the text (or down a page) looking for the specific words or phrases. (Alcalde, R; n.d.)
A clue when applying this technique will be look for the words that are bold faced, italicized or in a different font size, style or color.
