This reading technique is very useful when a student encounter an unfamiliar word in reading. The student should make use of context clues. (Spear, L; n.d.)
Rebbeca Oberg (n.d.) defines context clues as bits of information from the text that, when combined with prior knowledge, allow the student to decide the meaning of unknown words or phrases in the text or article they are reading.
It is important that the students circle the word or phrase they do not understand. Once they have done it, they can focus in the words that are before and after it for getting a context idea of it. They can also, underline key phrases and ideas in the sentence.
