Hazards
Skin and Eye Contact: While not classified as a severe irritant, TotalEnergies Quartz 5W-30 may cause skin irritation, especially with prolonged or repeated contact. It can also irritate eyes.
Ingestion: Ingestion of the oil can cause gastrointestinal upset, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
Inhalation: Inhalation of oil mist, particularly in poorly ventilated spaces, can irritate the respiratory system.
Fire: The oil itself is not flammable, but at high temperatures and in the presence of an ignition source, it can burn. Burning oil can produce hazardous fumes, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and various hydrocarbons.
Control Measures
General: Always work in well-ventilated areas. Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with skin. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the oil. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
Storage: Store the oil in its original container, away from heat, open flames, and strong oxidizers.
Spills: Confine spills with absorbent material like sand or earth. Avoid spreading the material with water streams. Collect the absorbent material and dispose of it according to local regulations.
Personal Protective Equipment
Safety Glasses: Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from splashes.
Gloves: Nitrile or other oil-resistant gloves are recommended to protect your skin.
Clothing: Wear overalls or other protective clothing to minimize skin contact.
Respiratory Protection: In poorly ventilated areas, or if misting is a concern, wear an oil mist respirator.
