Hazards
Flammability: Aerosol linemarkers are highly flammable and can ignite easily near sparks, open flames, or heat sources. They can also create explosive vapor-air mixtures even at room temperature.
Inhalation Hazards: The propellant and solvents in the paint can be harmful if inhaled. Inhaling these fumes may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or irritation to the respiratory system.
Eye Irritation: The paint can cause serious eye irritation if it comes into contact.
Environmental Impact: The chemicals in the paint can be harmful to aquatic life if allowed to enter drains or waterways.
Control Measures
Ventilation: Always use linemarkers in a well-ventilated area. If possible, use them outdoors to avoid any build-up of fumes.
Ignition Sources: Keep the linemarker away from heat, sparks, and open flames. No smoking should be allowed in the vicinity of use.
Storage: Store the linemarker in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Personal Protective Equipment
Respiratory Protection: If you are using the linemarker in a poorly ventilated area, wear a respirator that is approved for organic vapours and paint fumes.
Eye Protection: Wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from splashes of paint.
Skin Protection: Wear gloves made of a material that is resistant to the chemicals in the paint. For most linemarkers, nitrile gloves are a good choice. Consider wearing long sleeves and trousers for additional protection.
Spill Response
Follow process set out in the Spill Response Procedure.
Look up specific details in the Safety Data Sheet for the spilled material.
