THIS WEB PAGE HAS BEEN CHANGED AT THE REQUEST OF COGEO LTD..
IT ORIGINALLY PROVIDED YOU WITH A SUMMARY OF OUR RESPONSES TO FAQS ASSOCIATED WITH INTENSIVE POULTRY UNITS. COGEO'S RESPONSES TO THESE QUESTIONS CAN BE FOUND BY FOLLOWING THE LINK AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE.
THESE ARE OUR VIEWS ON SOME OF THE ISSUES COMMONLY ASSOCIATED WITH INTENSIVE POULTRY UNITS:
Increase in LOCAL TRAFFIC, due to egg collection; feed delivery; removal of manure; removal of carcasses; service vehicles; staff vehicles; visits by regulatory authorities.
Increase in NOISE due to increased traffic flow, industrial activities in the sheds and 24/7 operation of ventilation fans. This is currently a very quiet rural location.
Chicken manure has an extremely unpleasant ODOUR, and is an inevitable biproduct of egg production. Of more concern are the PARTICULATE MATTER (dust) and BIOTOXINS emitted from the sheds, which do not have a noticeable odour but are extremely harmful to children and vulnerable receptors.
Increased EMPLOYMENT depends on the economic viability of the project; Angus is littered with deserted hen-sheds. The development will make the area less attractive to tourists, which will impact on tourist-related businesses in the area.
Increased FLOOD RISK. We believe that the plans for managing rainfall on the site are inappropriate, because they risk transferring diseases from the sheds to local avian population and inadequate, because the water storage system proposed will not have the necessary volume.
PUBLIC CONSULTATION
WE HAD HOPED TO BRING YOU A REPORT OF THE PUBLIC CONSULTATION WITH COGEO LTD., WHICH THEY HELD ON 28 JANUARY 2021, BUT THEY HAVE STATED THAT ALL DISCUSSIONS WITH COGEO'S STAFF DURING THIS PROCESS WERE PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL AND CANNOT BE REPORTED. ANGUS COUNCIL HAS SUPPORTED THIS DECISION.
THE INPUT FROM NEIGHBOURS AFFECTED BY THIS DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN TOTALLY IGNORED BY COGEO AND CONONSYTH FARMS LTD. IN THEIR SUBSEQUENT PLANNING APPLICATION.
