Raising funds for kids one quilt at a time
Connor's Quilts is my project to combine my love for quilting with providing funds for important needs for children. All proceeds are presented in honor and memory of my nephew, Connor Moll. Time spent piecing, stitching and quilting gives me time to remember so many happy times together.
At least twelve quilts per year will be posted for in September, his birth month, on Connor's Quilts Facebook page. Each year a new program is selected to receive the funds. September 2026 will be the fifth year and this next year I will be donating to S.H.A.P.E.. In 2026 the quilts will be posted on September 1st at 6:00 pm CDT.
This year I will be supporting S.H.A.P.E - South Hamilton Area Pool and Exercise in Jewell, Iowa.
They are raising funds to build a new community swimming pool in the city of Jewell, Iowa.
The existing pool was built in 1964. The City of Jewell has taking very good care of the facility but it is at the end of its useful life and has been reported to be leaking.
In 2025 I will be supporting Above + Beyond Cancer - an organization that supports cancer survivors and caregivers with health + wellness programs during their cancer journey. The funds raised in September will support a young adult cancer survivor in one of Above + Beyond Cancer's many opportunities. My sister is a 17 year survivor and has participated in some of their programs, even taking Connor with her for some spin classes.
Wow! $4830 raised from quilt sales and generous donations. Another $2335 expected to arrive from a matching grant. A total of $7165 for Above + Beyond Cancer for their young adult programs!!
All proceeds in 2024 were donated to the Waukee Community Schools Foundation. The Socioeconomic Hardship Fund is designed to support the needs of low-income students and their families. This could include direct assistance in purchasing essential items, purchasing gear needed and fees associated with extra-curricular activities.
$3776.41 will help some students who need some extra help so they can have some of the same experiences of other students.
In 2023 I selected the Hamilton County Childcare Initiative Fund which supports the Childcare Bonus Program. Helping boost wages resulted in fuller staffing and greater enrollment in Hamilton County. This program has been a great success.
$1323.70 was donated and later determined the amount was tripled by a grant from the state.
Donations were given to the South Hamilton Community Schools to help elementary students pay for lunches. The federal free lunch program had ended and there was such a great need to make sure all students had breakfast and lunch.
$1080 was raised to help with school lunches.
For Christmas that year, I made each family member a special Connor quilt. It was such a heavy year in 2021 and spending time in my studio brought me joy. I worked to find special fabrics for each family member and make each quilt unique. All had a label attached - Love Will Hold Us Together.
