A measured plumbing plan is a precise, to-scale technical drawing illustrating the layout of water supply, drainage, waste, and venting systems. This document maps the exact locations of fixtures, pipe routes, and valves within the architectural framework.
The plumbing plan specifies the dimensions, sizes, and annotated details for all piping and fixtures, including sinks and toilets. It identifies the spatial arrangement of the supply and waste networks to prevent physical interference with structural, electrical, and HVAC systems. The drawing provides the specific routing and material requirements for the entire subsurface and internal fluid distribution network. In a Plumbing Plan:
Scaled Fixture Locations: Precise placement of all fixtures (toilets/WC, sinks/lavatories, showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, washing machines, floor drains).
Wall & Room Dimensions: Reference dimensions from the structural walls to the centerline of fixtures to ensure accurate on-site rough-in.
Floor Elevations: Specific elevations for floor waste or changes in slab level, if applicable.
Drain-Waste-Vent (DWV) Lines:
Drain Lines: Indicated with solid lines.
Vent Pipes: Crucial for pressure balance, marked with different line types (often dashed or dotted) to distinguish from drain lines.
Pipe Sizes: Diameters labeled for all lines (e.g., 4" for main drain, 2" for branches).
Slopes: Indicated slope percentage (e.g., 1/4 inch per foot) for horizontal drainage.
Water Supply Lines:
Hot Water (HWS): Labeled and often colored red.
Cold Water (CWS): Labeled and often colored blue.
Pipe Sizes: Diameters (e.g., 1/2", 3/4") for supply lines.
Valves & Components: Location of main shut-off valves, fixture stopcocks, and backflow preventers.
Water Heater Information: Location, type, and capacity of the water heater.
Sewage/Sump Pumps: Location and capacity if needed.

Symbols Legend: A key defining all plumbing symbols (e.g., WC, Lav, S, V) to avoid confusion.
Notes & Specifications: Information regarding material types (e.g., PVC, PEX, copper) and specific manufacturer models if required.
Riser Diagrams (Isometric View): A 3D, single-line diagram showing how pipes move vertically between floors.
Detailed Views: Insets for complex areas like bathrooms or commercial kitchens, indicating precise piping, traps, and venting.
Use Color Codes: Blue for cold water, red for hot water, black for waste, yellow for vents.
Avoid Clashes: Ensure plumbing lines do not clash with structural elements (beams, joists) or HVAC ducts.
Maintain Scaled Accuracy: Use 1/4" = 1'-0" or 1/2" = 1'-0" for detailing to ensure accurate measurements for the builder.
