The drawing outlines the physical boundaries and structural framework of the interior space, capturing the horizontal arrangement of the architecture. In a floor plan:
Scale and Orientation: A clear scale (e.g., 1/4" = 1'-0" or 1:50) and a North arrow.
Title Block: Project name, address, date of measurement, and name of the drafter.
Legend: Definitions for symbols, abbreviations (e.g., WIC, WC, FE), and line types.
Exterior and Interior Walls: Clearly defined, with thickness indicated to show load-bearing vs. partition walls.
Opening Locations: Precise measurements for doors and windows, taken from the nearest corner or wall intersection.
Opening Details: Widths and types of doors (swing, pocket, sliding) and windows (casement, slider, double-hung).

Built-ins: Fireplaces, bookshelves, and closets.
Staircases: Position, width, and direction of travel (labeled UP or DN).
HVAC: Thermostats, heating/cooling registers, and return air vents.
Electrical: Locations of switches, outlets, and circuit breaker panels (optional but highly recommended for design).
Plumbing/Gas: Hose bibs, gas meters, and exposed piping.
Material Indication: Specific notes on finishes (e.g., hardwood, carpet, tile) and exterior materials (siding, brick).
Changes in Level: Steps, sunken living rooms, or floor-to-floor transitions.
Photographs: A full photographic survey of all interior and exterior walls to capture details that might be missed during measurement.
Measure in Sections: For long walls, measure in segments to avoid compound errors.
Accuracy Level: For renovations, measure to the nearest 1/16 inch.
Check Math: Ensure that the sum of individual wall segments equals the overall dimension.
