CUSTOM RECEPTION DESK DESIGN - MEMPHIS COMMERCIAL SPACE
Bespoke Entry Furniture for Professional Office
Project Details: Commercial Interior | Memphis, Tennessee | 500 SF | Custom Furniture Design
Services: Measured Drawings, 3D Rendering, Custom Design
This Memphis commercial project designed a custom reception desk for a general contractor's new office space, creating a unique entry statement piece that reflected the company's craftsmanship while meeting specific functional requirements.
THE CHALLENGE
The general contractor was remodeling their office space and wanted a custom-designed reception desk that would:
Make a strong first impression on clients entering the office
Showcase the company's commitment to quality craftsmanship
Accommodate specific workflow and technology requirements
Fit precisely within the designated 500-square-foot entry area
Function as both a working desk and a design statement
Off-the-shelf reception furniture wouldn't achieve the custom look or specific functionality the contractor needed. The project required collaboration between architectural design and furniture fabrication disciplines.
THE SOLUTION
We began by measuring the entire reception area—approximately 500 square feet—documenting the space's dimensions, existing architectural features, ceiling heights, and electrical/data locations that would affect desk placement.
Working closely with the owner, we developed a custom desk design that balanced aesthetics with functionality:
Custom Proportions: Sized specifically for the space and the receptionist's workflow, with careful attention to counter heights, work surface depth, and visitor interaction areas.
Integrated Technology: Planned locations for computers, phone systems, cable management, and data connections, ensuring the desk would function efficiently in daily use.
Material Specifications: Developed detailed specifications for materials and finishes that would complement the office's overall design while showcasing quality construction.
Spatial Integration: Designed the desk to anchor the entry area while maintaining good circulation and sightlines throughout the 500-square-foot reception zone.
We created detailed 3D renderings showing the desk in context, allowing the owner to visualize exactly how the piece would look in their space before fabrication. The renderings showed different angles, material options, and how the desk would interact with the surrounding architecture.
Measured area drawings showed the desk's placement within the overall entry space, ensuring proper clearances and circulation patterns.
KEY FEATURES
Custom-designed furniture tailored to specific functional requirements and aesthetic vision

RESULTS
The custom reception desk design gave the general contractor exactly what they envisioned—a unique entry statement that reflected their company's craftsmanship standards. The detailed 3D renderings and specifications provided clear direction for fabrication, ensuring the final built piece matched the design intent.
By designing furniture specifically for the space rather than adapting off-the-shelf solutions, we created a reception area that felt intentional and professional, making the right first impression on clients.
This project demonstrates how architectural design services can extend beyond buildings to create custom furniture solutions that enhance commercial interiors.
