Muscles can be grouped by region or function. Learn the rules. Learn the exceptions.
Similar to limbs, you can compartmentalize muscles in the head and neck by functional or regional types; e.g. infrahyoid muscles, suprahyoid muscles, pharyngeal muscles, laryngeal muscles, muscles of facial expression, muscles of mastication, muscles of the tongue, palatine muscles, muscles in the middle ear, muscles in the eye, and extraocular muscles.
Make note where the same cranial nerve innervates muscles from different regions/function and regions/functions that have multiple innervations.
