Unit #1 Mnemonics

Openings of the diaphragm:

“I ate 10 Eggs At 12”

• Inferior vena cava (caval opening): T8 vertebral level

• T10 vertebral level: Esophageal hiatus

• Aortic hiatus: T12 vertebral level

Openings of the diaphragm:

• Vena cava = 8 letters (level T8)

• Oesophagus (spelled with the "o" at the beginning) = 10 letters (level T10)

• Aortic hiatus = 12 letters (level T12)

Branches of the aortic arch in order:

• We need to remember our ABCs

• A: Aortic arch

• B: Brachiocephalic trunk

• C: Common carotid artery (left)

• S: Subclavian artery (left)

Thoracic duct location:

• Look for a DUCK between two GOOSES

• Duck = thoracic duct

• Gooses = azygoose vein and esophagoose

Number of Vertebral Types:

Breakfast @ 7 (7 cervical)

Lunch @ 12 (12 Thoracic) 

Dinner @ 5 (5 Lumbar)
