The motivation behind the CommUnity project is rooted in the desire to address pressing social and economic inequalities while empowering local communities to thrive sustainably. Our project aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). These goals emphasize the importance of inclusive economic growth, reducing social disparities, and fostering sustainable community development.
In many European regions, particularly in countries like Belgium, Norway, Italy, Poland, and Lithuania, adults, especially small business owners, are significantly impacted by economic downturns, social exclusion, and limited access to lifelong learning opportunities. The project addresses these challenges by offering flexible, high-quality adult education, creating pathways for upskilling, and promoting social inclusion. By equipping adults with the skills and resources necessary to build and sustain businesses, CommUnity aims to create a more resilient and inclusive economy.
This project also aligns with key European Union strategies, such as the European Pillar of Social Rights and the European Skills Agenda. The Pillar of Social Rights underscores the importance of equal opportunities, fair working conditions, and social inclusion. CommUnity supports these pillars by offering targeted support for disadvantaged groups, reducing economic disparities, and promoting lifelong learning. Furthermore, the project complements the European Skills Agenda, which seeks to upskill and reskill adults across Europe, fostering an adaptable and skilled workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy.
CommUnity is also motivated by the need to strengthen local economies and foster sustainable business practices. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the European economy, and by empowering adult entrepreneurs, the project aims to bolster local employment and economic resilience. Training in community welfare and sustainable practices not only enhances the well-being of individuals but also ensures the long-term sustainability of local businesses and their contribution to the community.
Funding this project will significantly contribute to building stronger, more resilient communities across Europe. By reducing inequalities, fostering social inclusion, and empowering local businesses, CommUnity will help create a more sustainable, prosperous future for all, fully aligned with both European strategies and global sustainable development goals.
