Looking for a few good people!

Community Quilts are made by the guild and donated to various facilities in the community.  The purpose of the committee is to make kits which are then checked out at our monthly meetings. Fabric is cut according to a pattern and put in a bag with the pattern for piecing.  Once the top is returned, the committee cuts backing, batting, and binding for the kit, and it is made available for someone to check out to layer, quilt, and bind.  The final finished quilt is then put into the inventory and assigned to one of our designated charities for donation.

.

All these steps take many hands.  The committee meets once a month on the 3rd Thursday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at Sonsio in Arvada. This company has generously offered us warehouse space and a workspace.  Anyone is welcome to join us.  Just bring your rotary cutter to Sonsio,  5630 Ward Road, Arvada.

Members at large check out either kits to piece or kits to quilt every month, if interested.  This work by members makes the Community Quilts program successful as you can see by the huge number we have been able to donate this year.

Are you accurate with a rotary blade & ruler?

Kits Are Still Available!

Sweetheart Sew-In was so much fun! The Community Quilt committee created “Trailing Vine Quilt” kits for us to make. A wonderful pattern for our collections!

There are still kits available to check out at our monthly meetings. Fabric is cut according to a pattern and put in a bag with the pattern for piecing. If you love to sew tops, sew away and return. The committee cut backing, batting, and binding for the kit and made it available for someone to check out to layer, quilt, and bind.  The final finished quilt is then put into the inventory and assigned to one of our designated charities for donation. (If you love to finish quilts, community quilt ladies will be happy to give you backing, batting, and binding for your quilt!

Join us and make a quilt for charity!

Quilters are a generous group. Generous with their talents, time, and hearts. Community Quilts manages the creating, collecting, and distribution of quilts from crib size to twin size to several, Board-approved organizations.

Community Quilts Delivered YTD-119

Envision  Hospice and Home Care is an in-home hospice care organization. Both men and women are in hospice, so quilts appealing to both are needed. We donate wheelchair size (45”x45”) up to twin size for their patients on a monthly basis.

Ralston House is an organization with 3 locations which provides forensic interviewing of children who have been victims or witnesses of violence and abuse. We donate brightly colored children’s quilts from lap size to twin size on a quarterly basis.

Veteran’s Hospital we donate to/through a local American Legion Post. The hospital requests quilts be 48”x 72” as these are for wheelchair patients and they like to tuck the blanket under their feet. These are donated as we collect them in groups of 10.

Oncology Patients:

Family Tree was adopted by the guild early in 2021.  "Family Tree is a non-profit human services agency providing innovative, life-changing services designed to end child abuse, domestic violence, and homelessness." (Family Tree website thefamilytree.org.)   We donate 5 children and 5 adult quilts per month.  Since their clients transition into their own homes, we try to give them close to a twin size as a bed covering.

Columbine Quilt Guild is ready to step up when the community is in need.  If you know of a need, please contact us.  Community Quilts is supported by the entire guild.  At every meeting, we provide kits for piecing, and kits with quilts needing quilting and binding.  There is a need for whatever skill you have.  If a member chooses to design her own quilt and not pick up one of our kits, that is great.  We will accept any heartfelt, heartwarming quilt.

EMERGENCY QUILT REQUEST

Occasionally we are asked to provide a few quilts for people in dire circumstances.  Since our Guild has been very supportive of Community Quilts, we have been able to respond.  However, rather than pull from quilts already designated for our chosen facilities (noted above), we are building a small stash for other emergency situations.  We may or may not be able to meet all requests, depending on the frequency.

If you know of a situation in which Columbine Quilt Guild can be of help, please contact Linda Kennedy lkenn1410@comcast.net or call her with questions at 720-935-5112.
