Leaves

The leaves are clustered in clumps at the base of the flowers, or on their own.

The leaves are usually dark green. Their shape varies: it can be anywhere from elliptic to oblanceolate.

In Colorado the plant almost always has a whorl of bracts at the base of the inflorescence.

The stems tend to lean under the weight of the flowers. They're usually somewhat hairy.
