Astragalus flexuosus

Flexile Milkvetch

Fabaceae (Pea family)

The pea flowers are pinkish-purple. The banners have a series of vertical, white lines. The keel is rounded and shorter than the wings (5-7 mm long).

The calyx has stiff hairs and is 4 or 5 mm long. It has small, triangular, reddish and green teeth. The teeth are about 2 mm long.

Each leaf has between 15 and 21 leaflets along a flexile axis. The leaflets are on short (1 mm) petioles.

The leaflets are 8-12 mm long and range from linear-oblanceolate to oblong.

The blades are glabrous (hairless) on top. Underneath they're strigose, meaning they have short, stiff hairs that are appressed (flattened against the blade).

There are stipules at the base of each leaf. The lower ones are ovate-lanceolate, slightly joined and 2-3 mm long. Farther up the stem they get longer (3-5 mm) narrower and are not joined.
