Heterotheca villosa isn't picky about where it grows. It's native to most counties in Colorado in almost any habitat: prairie, in forests, grasslands, rocky slopes and especially disturbed areas, like trails and roadsides. It can grow at altitudes between 1,500-8,500 ft (457-2591 m).
