Backstory

NOTE: (My depiction is based on the current Rebirth/Infinite Frontiers reboot, with some past WIldstorm canon mixed in. Will be updated as more info is revealed)

Years ago, Cole Cash was, at one time, a member of Team 6 alongside his brother, Max Cash. However, the group was eventually ambushed in Midway City by the terrorist Kobra Cult and forces working for Mister Freeze. During the fight, Cash was severely wounded, taking seventeen bullets. However, as he was incapacitated, Wonder Woman and Superman arrived on the scene and defeated the cultists. Taken to the hospital, he was the subject of experimental (and lifesaving) medical procedures by a partnership of Wayne Enterprises and the Halo Corporation. His brother, unfortunately, did not survive. 

Sometime following the "Joker War," Grifter begins to work as a bodyguard in Gotham City, being hired by Lucius Fox. Upon meeting Batman, the two fight until Lucius intervenes. After having a conversation with Lucius about The Joker, Punchline, and the Wayne family fortune, Batman warns Grifter that he knows who Grifter's real boss is, and that Gotham will always be under his watch. 

Grifter currently works with the Halo Corporation as an operative, part of the WildC.A.T.S. team.
