1. BE SPECIFIC: Submit a specific, factual comment identifying the exact study segment/location near you. Vague opposition is easy to set aside; a specific, documented impact is not.

2. COMMENT TEMPLATE: "[Identify the exact study segment/location.] This segment should be reconsidered because [describe the specific farm, residence, wetland, drainage, woodland, view, access, or other impact]. [Add factual details: standing water, drainage tile, active crop production, residence distance, mature woodland, etc.] Please evaluate and disclose alternatives that use or parallel existing utility corridors, and provide a route-specific comparison of new right-of-way, agricultural land, wetlands/waterways, residences, woodland clearing, route length, and cost before advancing this segment."

3. CATEGORIES: Suggested categories to reference in your comment: agricultural impact; proximity to homes; wetlands/floodplain; woodlands/wildlife; visual impact; rural character; cumulative infrastructure; property-value concern; and failure to utilize an existing corridor nearby.

OUTSIDE OF COLD SPRING? GET BECI ON YOUR TOWN BOARD AGENDA

Ask your Town Board to formally discuss BECI and consider a resolution or motion requesting an existing-corridor analysis. Suggested motion language:

"I move that the Town of [Name] formally request that Midcontinent Grid Solutions conduct and publicly provide a route-specific comparison of BECI greenfield study segments with alternatives that use, rebuild, expand, or parallel existing utility corridors to the greatest extent feasible, before preliminary routes are advanced."
