After a long and hard working day, the Salinian Yearbook staff celebrate by dancing after organizing and photographing 57 student run clubs over one school day on December 18, 2024. This amount of effort is evident through the most important piece of any publication.

I'll be honest, I did not like writing growing up.
It was my least favorite thing to do when I was in elementary school. In middle school, I took a Journalism class just to try it out. As the weeks progressed, I found a joy for the ability to write with a purpose, telling people the story of others.
When I entered high school, even though I enjoyed using computers and describing stories in a digital format better, I knew that...
"if I wanted to go into journalism, I have to enjoy what came first."
That's what would get your story heard. Whether that be an article every trimester in the newspaper, or a few feature stories in the yearbook, which are listed below.

"Starting freshman year is challenging. You got invited to this orientation, so you decide to go. Once you walk in, you can barely hear your own thoughts. The energy and excitement in the Commons is palpable, and even the Link Crew leaders are dancing to “YMCA” by the Village People over the speakers.
On a sunny Thursday, the Class of 2028 was invited to campus to get to know other incoming students and Link Crew leaders. Those leaders helped freshmen learn the ins-and-outs of their classes, the bell schedule and many other “little” features of high school life it was helpful to know."

“Because of the forfeits we were forced to take, the number of Saline student-athletes on the SEC All-Conference team was limited. Dexter, who we handily beat on the field, had more student-athletes recognized than we did.” Ross mentioned that this isn’t something that should be brushed off. College coaches look at these athletes and what conference and state recognition they gain. And with the forfeits, they were swiftly taken away, “and yet nobody has been held accountable,” Ross said."

FINAL THOUGHTS
The small, but important aspect of journalism wasn't always my strongest piece of work, but I still practiced at it knowing that I could do better after every feature story, every article. Now as an editor-in-chief of a yearbook program, I know that there is always improvements I could work on. And it is always fun to watch others craft a story they're assigned. Seeing that spark even influences me that there is always another story out there, untold.
