After the end of my junior year of high school, I visit Seattle, WA for a bit of sightseeing and practice on June 24, 2024. Once I get back home, I knew that I will be doing a ton of coverage for the 2025 yearbook.
One of my favorite, and first activities I got a hang of pretty quick. To be honest, it's in my blood.
My mother started when she was young, even having her own freelancer business in her early to mid 20's. During the virtual school year of 2020-2021, I entered my eighth grade year thinking that I would be an animator like Alan Becker or TheOdd1sOut.
I enrolled in the Multimedia class as a related subject to animation. But once the photography unit started, I soon realized that this was something that I could get used to. Capturing moments to describe the story for others made me realize that...
"this was the easiest way for me to enter into the journalism world."
My best work should show you each story I have captured below.
By staying out of the way of the audience's view, I wanted to show the cast's emotions and actions throughout the play. And because this was a musical, the emotion by the actors was vital to express.
As my position as the Social Media Coordinator of the Salinian Yearbook was drawing to a close, I wanted to give one last gift to the seniors that helped me into the position I am in for my senior year. I focused on capturing the iconic cap throw, the warmest emotional moments of individuals, and walking out as alumni instead of seniors.
Under the flourescent lights, celebrating at their achievements was a prevelant aspect on this night. Even though winning against Ann Arbor Huron 43-7, this was one of my first times getting coverage for the Yearbook. Even though it was one of my best, there was still improvements to work on.
Capturing the amazement and awe by students and staff was easier to get in this event. Even though the eclipse didn't reach totality from where we were, the amazement by students stood out enough.
After learning the basics of Manual mode on my mother's Canon Rebel T6, I wanted to capture the important moments of my life and others day by day. Even though that was 5 years ago, I've kept to my word very well since then. Seeing the events unfold in front of me and through the many lenses I carried in these last 5 years have showed me that this large branch of journalism has so much offer, in the smallest impacts around each individual and minute setting.
