All coaching models lead back to the seminal work of Jim Knight. Jim Knight points out that any new coaching program must address seven success factors.
Do you have a coaching cycle with student-focused goals?
How do you work with adults? Teachers as partners?
Do you have a set of teaching practices or instructional playbook?
How do you gather data?
Do you have communication skills?
Are you a leader in the way coaches need to be a leader?
Are you supported by the principal?
To learn more about the seven success factors, check out the four-minute video 7 Success Factors for Coaching Programs on the left.
There are many different coaching frameworks that have various strengths and focus. For the purpose of this toolkit, we will be looking deeper at Jim Knight's Impact Cycle which can be easily adapted to the instructional coaching needs of SDP.

As learners, when we obtain new information that we feel will be useful we add it to our "toolkit" - we try our hardest to remember all the things we have learned. Challenge yourself to create an actual toolkit of instructional ideas and coaching concepts that you want to be able to reference again. This toolkit can be created any way you wish, but some possibilities are in Google Sites, Canvas, or any other resource that you think will work for you.
