PAVA Spray Guide!
What is PAVA spray?
PAVA spray is an incapacitant spray similar to pepper spray. PAVA primarily affects the eyes, causing closure and severe pain. The pain to the eyes is reported to be greater than that caused by CS. The effectiveness rate is very high once PAVA gets into the eyes.
Who can use PAVA spray?
Citizens may not use PAVA, under Section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968, however, police, prison officers and other officials are allowed to use PAVA to uphold the law. In our prison, the use of PAVA spray is for Tornado and Tactical Command+ with training for crowd control and to uphold the law.
When should the spray be used?
PAVA spray is another form of a non lethal, you can use it in the same way a taser should be used, however where a taser is used for one person, PAVA spray can be used in a crowd of people to stop riots or prisoners being where they should not be. Like a taser, you would give warnings before use as the prisoners may need medical assistance if they have a major reaction to the spray.
How can you get trained?
Training for PAVA spray is a training you can get within the Tornado Team Division, you don't automatically get the right to train for the spray, however once you have passed the training phase into the Tornado Team you will be granted access to get PAVA spray trained.
What punishments are given for misuse?
Like every weapon/item in Prison, you can be punished if you misuse it. If caught using PAVA Spray wrong/abusively. You could get anything from a T1 to a T3. You could also have the training removed and also be demoted in the TR group.
