Updated future plans

Updating this portfolio has been a useful exercise. It hasn’t been easy to summarise my work in this period, or to select just three CPD activities. However, as with writing my original portfolio, reviewing my accomplishments and filtering a selection has helped me further define the path I feel I am on and to identify my current strengths and weaknesses.

I want to apply for full fellowship of the HEA, and carry out further training and development for learning design; I want to make use of all my learning from the Transform project to further enhance our academic modules and to work on new modules and projects.

I intend to keep updating my breadth of knowledge and skills. One particular area where a little goes a long way, and where I would like to focus more, is programming. I have been able to enhance VLE pages with Javascript, and have written server-side PHP for Wordpress, but as programming is not a focus of my role I realise I have far more to learn. I’ve recently taken Harvard’s CS50 computer science MOOC as I want to deepen my knowledge of traditional programming languages – both to assist with VLE development, and to branch out into gamification.

On a related note, I feel I need to develop my skills in authoring tools further; this links back to the specialist option in my original portfolio. Taking training on the current version of Storyline has helped me appreciate the wealth of new features available in authoring tools in recent years, and I feel that UCEM could make better use of these.
