Kindergarten Chinese Teacher at Hope Chinese Charter School
Angie Chien-Fu grew up in Taiwan; she earned her college degree in Mass Communication. She completed her graduate study in the US and received a Master’s degree in Education from San Diego State University. Ms. Chien-Fu started teaching to early-childhood learners in 1994. In the past decade, she has been teaching Chinese to K-12 students in US. While teaching at HCCS, Ms. Chien-Fu has been actively developing creative learning activities to reinforce early-childhood literacy in Chinese. She has been invited to present at conferences such as the National Chinese Language Conference (2019 & 2017) and the Chinese Language Education Forum (2016) about how to improve Chinese oral proficiency and literacy through meaningful practice. In summer 2017, she also has been invited to be an instructor for STARTALK Pacific NW K-12 Chinese Teacher Training Program at HCCS.
蔡筱云老师结合大学生的认知特点,在2020年秋季学期,每星期只能与学生见一、两次面的现状下,创立了全新的由学生自我引导为主体的线上口语练习教学方案。不仅有教师的先期制作录像,而且学生运用 Flipgrid 软件灵活多样地学习生词、语句、段落,并且互相提问、解答、帮助修改。取得了非常好的教学效果,相信大家观摩学习后,必定受到全面的启发。在此向蔡老师表示深深的感谢。
University of Portland
Ms. Hsiao-Yun Shotwell is the Curriculum and Program coordinator for the Chinese program at University of Portland. She is also the senior Chinese instructor at Portland State University. She enjoys working at different projects and collaborating with institutions. During 2010-2013, she was one of the committee members for Title VI grant and worked with the East West Center in the ASDP (Asian Studies Development Program). In 2016, she worked with University of Oregon on the Language Flagship Linkages Grant for the Chinese program in the Pacific Northwest. Recently, she worked with OED in the World Language Instructional Materials Criteria Development and Adoption Review. Recently, her research interests are equity issues in secondary dual-language immersion programs, critical culturally relevant pedagogy and critical race theory. She is also an animal lover and enjoys hiking, biking and jogging. Over the break, she is hoping to explore new parks and trails around Portland with her kids.
