General News
Chalapathi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences reverberated with patriotism and enthusiasm on the occasion of India's 77th Independence Day celebration on August 15th 2023. The campus was adorned with the tricolor and the atmosphere was charged with a sense of pride and unity as students, faculty and staff came together to commemorate the historic day that marked India's liberation from colonial rule.
The festivities began with the hoisting of the national flag by the founder & president Sri Y. V. Anjaneyulu, college principal Prof. Rama Rao Nadendla and former VC of Mizoram University Prof. K. R. S. Samabasiva Rao, accompanied by a rendition of the national anthem that filled the air with an overwhelming sense of patriotism. The flag soared high, symbolizing the unwavering spirit of the nation and its relentless pursuit of progress and growth.
The institute commemorated the Birth Anniversary of the Father of Indian Pharmacology, Sir Ram Nath Chopra (1882-1973). As part of the commemoration, the institute organized the Sir Ram Nath Chopra Memorial Lecture on the topic "Antimicrobial Chemotherapy: Past, Current, and Future Trends." The lecture was delivered by Dr. G. Bhanu Prakash, M.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Kurnool Medical College, Andhra Pradesh. The event took place on August 17th, 2023.
A series of e-poster presentations on various course topics were planned for all the courses, with the primary aim of enhancing a wide range of skills among the students like research, critical thinking, visual design, digital literacy, data interpretation and effective communication. The event marked a significant milestone as it featured the inaugural e-poster presentations by the I/VI Pharm D students on August 21, 2023. It offers numerous benefits to both students and educators. It encourage students to delve deeper into course topics, promoting a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. The skills gained from creating e-posters extend beyond the classroom, empowering students to continue utilizing visual communication strategies in their lifelong learning journeys. Overall, it offers a rich learning experience that goes beyond traditional teaching methods.
We are delighted to report the vibrant celebrations that took place on August 29th to commemorate National Sports Day, which coincides with the birth anniversary of the esteemed field hockey player Major Dhyan Chand Singh. This event not only honors his remarkable contributions to Indian sports but also underlines the significance of fostering sports and physical well-being across the nation. The festivities were marked by an array of sports activities, reflecting a commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Both women and men enthusiastically participated in various events, underscoring the importance of equal representation in sports. The activities spanned a wide range, including women's shotput, running, and throw ball, as well as men's shotput, running, and kabaddi. This diverse lineup aimed not only to celebrate athleticism but also to encourage a holistic approach to fitness.

Awareness Programs
CLPT-PMBJK organized a free blood pressure checkup event on the occasion of World Hypertension Day (17.05.2023). The event was coordinated by II/VI Pharm.D students under the theme: "Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control it, Live Longer."
The Faculty of Pharmacy Practice conducted an awareness program on Thyroid Day (25/05/2023). In collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy Practice, an awareness program was conducted on World No Tobacco Day (31/05/2023) at the Natco Cancer Centre, GGH, specifically at the Department of Medical Oncology. The program aimed to promote the message: "We Need Food, Not Tobacco." During the event, patient education sessions were conducted, featuring talks and examinations by medical experts including Dr. Shiva Ramakrishna (Medical Oncology), Dr. Srinivas (Radiation Oncology), and Dr. Ayyappa (Surgical Oncology), addressed the cancer patients.
A Mega Blood Donor Camp was organized at GMCANA Auditorium, Guntur Medical College, Guntur, in collaboration with the Department of Blood Bank, GGH and the Department of Pharmacy Practice, CLPT, on World Blood Donor Day (14/06/2023). Pharm D Interns actively participated in the Blood Donor Programme.
In celebration of International Yoga Day (21/06/2023), Yoga and Meditation sessions were conducted. Mrs. Seetha Prasad and Mrs. Vijaya Lakshm, Heartfulness Trainers from Guntur, led the sessions, which were attended by students from II/IV B. Pharmacy, III/IV B. Pharmacy, II/VI Pharm. D and I/II M. Pharmacy.
An awareness program with the theme "People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention" was organized at the Department of Psychiatry, GGH, Guntur, in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy Practice, on World Drug Day (26/06/2023).
On National Doctor's Day (1/07/2023), a celebration took place at Sushurata Hall, GGH, where Dr. Y. KIRAN KUMAR, the Superintendent, delivered a welcome speech. This event was held in honor of doctors and their contributions.
During Sarcoma Month (July 1-July 31), V&VI Pharm D students distributed patient information leaflets on Sarcoma to sarcoma patients at the Natco Cancer Center, GGH, Guntur, aiming to raise awareness about sarcoma.
On 13/07/2023, IV/VI Pharm.D Students promoted awareness on "How To Stay Healthy During This Monsoon & Peer Wellness" during the International Safe Month celebrations organized by Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadi Kendra (PMBJK-CLPT).
Monthly free health screening and checkups, including measurements such as BMI, respiratory rate, pulse rate, heart rate, blood pressure and blood glucose level, along with patient counseling, were coordinated by IV/VI Pharm.D students under PMBJK-CLPT on 13/7/2023.
An awareness program on World Hepatitis Day (28/07/2023) was organized with the theme "New Life, New Liver" at the Department of General Medicine, GGH, in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy Practice.
Furthermore, an awareness event on World ORS Day (31/07/2023) was organized by the Department of Pharmacy Practice in association with the Department of Pediatrics at Govt. General Hospital, focusing on the importance of oral rehydration solutions.
To empower women, the Women's Cell organized an elocution competition on the topic of "Women Empowerment" for all girl students on 31.07.2023, providing a platform for them to express their views and ideas.
During the Breastfeeding Week (01st - 7th August), an awareness program was organized jointly by the Department of Pediatrics and Postnatal wards at GGH (Government General Hospital), along with the Department of Pharmacy Practice. The program involved distributing informative leaflets and educating lactating mothers about the significance of mother's milk and its benefits for both the mother and child.
On World Lung Cancer Day (1/08/2023), an awareness event was held at the Department of Medical Oncology, NATCO Cancer, Govt. General Hospital, in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy Practice. The event focused on the theme "A Breath of Prevention is Better than Expectations on Long-Term Survival," aiming to highlight the importance of preventive measures against lung cancer. Simultaneously, an Alumni association organized a drawing competition on the topic of "QUIT SMOKING" at CLPT (College of Pharmacy and Legal Studies) and recognized and appreciated the winners of the competition. This initiative aimed to promote anti-smoking messages and raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking.
On the eve of World Organ Donation Day (13.08.2023), the PMBJK (Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra) in collaboration with ISPOR-INDIA AMARAVATI REGIONAL CHAPTER and NSS UNIT, organized an impactful Awareness Programme. The event featured a variety of activities aimed at promoting organ donation. A painting competition was held with the theme of organ donation for spreading the message of giving the gift of life. A compelling mime skit on "BE A DONOR" was performed, portraying the journey of organ donation. The Cultural Committee has organized a Dance Competition as part of the celebrations on the eve of International Youth Day- 12.08.2023.

A webinar titled "Importance of Profession Ready Training and Placements in the Booming Industry of Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance, and Associated Domains" was organized by the Department of Pharmacy Practice in collaboration with Clini India, Mumbai, on 24/06/2023.
An online workshop on "In-vitro Testing: A Comprehensive Overview" was conducted by Mr. Shreyas Burji, Co-Founder of Auxochromofours Solutions, Bengaluru. This workshop was organized by the Department of Pharmacology on 19/07/2023.
A national conference on "Anti Microbial Stewardship & Its Clinical Appraisal" was held on 27th and 28th July 2023. The conference saw active participation from B. Pharm, Pharm D, M. Pharm students and healthcare professionals.
An online webinar titled "Decolonising Pharmaceutical Sciences" was presented by Dr. Mrunali Harshadrai Damania, a Psychology Researcher from IIT Roorkee. The webinar was organized by the Department of Pharmacology on 04/08/2023.
The Department of Pharmaceutics organized a two-day skill development course on "Pharmaceutical Optimization and Quality by Design in Product Development" for I/II M. Pharmacy students specializing in Pharmaceutics and Regulatory Affairs. The course took place from 07/08/2023 to 08/08/2023.
A webinar titled "Revolutionizing Career Trends with SAS in the Booming Industry and Associated Domains" was organized in association with CLINI INDIA on August 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm.
In a bid to foster excellence in the realm of education, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) orchestrated a significant national webinar. The event, centered around the theme "Best Practices in Higher Educational Institutions," took place on August 25, 2023. Dr. S. N. Suresh, Vice Principal and Director of IQAC at Rathinam College of Arts and Sciences, Rathinam Technical Campus, Echanari, Coimbatore, India, played a pivotal role as a resource person during the event.

The Competitive Exam Coaching Cell of Chalapathi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Department of Pharmaceutics, organized a guest lecture on "How to Prepare for GPAT and NIPER Competitive Exams" for III/IV B. Pharmacy students. The lecture was delivered by Dr. KVSS Narayana Reddy, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, on 02/05/2023.
Department of Pharmacology:
A lecture on Clinical Data Management was conducted by Mr. Pavan Kumar Achanta, Clinical Data Team Lead at Thermo Fischer Scientific India Ltd., Bangalore. The lecture took place on 27/06/2023. On August 26, 2023, a guest session focusing on the "Secrets of Success" was organized. The resource person for this enlightening session was Dr. Eswar Gupta Maddi, a Professor from the Department of Pharmaceutics, Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy, Bangalore, Karnataka.
Pharmacy Practice:
Dr. Bollu Mounica, Medical Services Analyst at Accenture Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, discussed the Roles & Responsibilities of Clinical Pharmacists and Career Opportunities in the Current Scenario on 15/05/2023.
Dr. Jyothsna Nathani, Consultant in HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) at Paraxel International (India) Pvt. Ltd., delivered a lecture on Career Development in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics on 15/07/2023. The lecture was organized in association with ISPOR India-Amarawati Chapter & ISPOR ANU-Student Chapter.
An offline guest lecture on Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare was conducted on 21/07/2023. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ram Pothineni, Lead Data Scientist at JP Morgan, Hyderabad.
Dr. K. Shankar, MD, DTCD, Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at GMC (Government Medical College), Guntur, discussed Lifestyle Disorders and the Role of Low Carbohydrate High Fat Diet with Intermittent Fasting with students and staff of the college on 22/07/2023.
Certificate programme
A Certificate Program on "Pharmacovigilance" was conducted by the Department of Pharmacology in collaboration with CLPT Alumni from 03/07/2023 to 08/07/2023. Mr. Katuru Chaitanya, an alumnus of CLPT who currently serves as a Senior Drug Safety Associate at IQVIA, Bangalore, led the training sessions during this period.

Training Programmes
A training session on "Yoga For Well-being" was conducted for teaching and non-teaching staff on May 8, 2023. Dr. Durga Rao, a certified yoga trainer, introduced them to basic pranayama techniques to alleviate stress in daily life.
Prof. K.N Rajini Kanth and Prof. D. Eswar Tony participated in a 5-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Sustainability, Aligning External and Internal Drivers, held at Kanha Santhi Vanam, Hyderabad, from June 2, 2023, to June 6, 2023.
The Department of Pharmaceutics organized a one-day professional training session on Diffusion Cell Apparatus for faculty members on June 10, 2023.
Dr. Bollu Mounika, a Medical Service Analyst from Accenture Pvt. Ltd, Hyderabad, participated in an orientation program conducted for 2nd-year 4th-semester B. Pharmacy students on June 12. The program focused on enlightening students about roles and career opportunities in healthcare.
A hands-on training program on pelletization techniques and film-forming technology was organized in collaboration with VJ Instruments, Maharashtra, on July 7 and 8. The program saw participation from students of various pharmacy colleges in and around Guntur, providing them comprehensive training.
The Department of Pharmaceutics conducted a Faculty Training on the Zeta Particle Size Analyzer on July 13, 2023.
Dr. Chiranjeevi, a Research Associate in Drug Information Services, conducted a hands-on training session on CLINIREX DATABASE for V Pharm D students on July 14, 2023.

Placement
22 students from CLPT were selected through a campus placement drive for trainee positions in QA, QC, and production, which was conducted by NATCO Pharma Ltd., Nagarjuna Sagar, on May 17, 2023, for IV/IV B. Pharmacy and II/II M. Pharmacy students. The offered salary is 20,000 INR per month along with accommodation.
Additionally, 18 students from CLPT were selected during an On-Campus Placement Drive by Divis Laboratories, Choutuppal, Hyderabad, on May 18, 2023.
Awards & Achievements
Prof. Rama Rao Nadendla, Principal of CLPT, was awarded a patent for the "Novel UV-Spectroscopic Approach for Quantification of Simvastatin and Sitagliptin in Bulk and Pharmaceutical Formulations" on June 10, 2023.
A Special Appreciation Award for their contribution to Blood Donor Services was presented to Pharm D Interns: Mr. Venkatesh Tarun Sai, Rajkumar, Mr. Eswar, Mr. Ganesh (V/VI), Ms. Mithra Vindha, Ms. Manjusha, Ms. Alekhya, Ms. Bhavana, Ms. Amulya, Ms. Ameena, and Ms. Meghana.
In the NIPER Joint Entrance Examination 2023, five students from IV/IV B. Pharmacy achieved rankings: Mr. Pathipati Praveen (1524), Ms. Muthumula Sonu (2408), Mr. Shaik Sajid (2557), Mr. Kondepogu Sasidhar (2885), and Mr. Bapatla Sai Hanumanthu Harish (2953).
Prof. Rama Rao Nadendla, Principal of CLPT, has been selected for the "APTI Special Appreciation Award for Immense Contributions to the Pharmacy Profession." He will be presented with the award during the 26th APTICON event.
In a momentous feat, Ms. M. Mounika, a student of B. Pharmacy 2018 batch, has emerged as the proud recipient of "The Alapathi Jayasree Memorial Gold Medal". The coveted award was bestowed upon her during the illustrious 39th and 40th Graduation Ceremony of Acharya Nagarjuna University, 29th August. in a ceremony brimming with prestige and accomplishment. The honor was officially announced by the esteemed Principal, Professor Rama Rao Nadendla, who lauded Mounika's exceptional dedication and outstanding performance throughout her academic journey. The Alapathi Jayasree Memorial Gold Medal stands as a testament to Mounika's relentless pursuit of excellence and her remarkable contributions to the academic sphere.With the conferral of the Alapathi Jayasree Memorial Gold Medal upon M. Mounika, we celebrate not only her individual triumph but also the values of scholarship, tenacity, and brilliance that she embodies.
