Uskedal is one of small villages in the Kvinherad region. The development was firstly slow since they mostly had to rely on boat transportation. The village began to expand steadily, and by the late 19th century, a new road connected it to Rosendal. Uskedalen gained local importance by founding Kvinnherad’s first dairy, which sold cheese, milk and especially butter, renowned even in England. Over the years, Uskedalen also hosted several canning companies and shipyards, contributing to its economic development. Today, Uskedalen is known for its stunning nature, tranquility, and growing popularity among climbers.
Climbing in Uskedalen began relatively recently, with the first documented route established in 1987 by Per Vigerust. Despite its impressive granite walls—some reaching up to 800 meters—Uskedalen remained largely overlooked by both Norwegian and international climbers for years. As of 2015, only about 60 routes had been recorded in the area.
