Looking for the best climbing spots?
Here you’ll find a selection of guidebooks and online resources to help you discover routes, plan your climbs, and explore new crags with confidence.
Bergen Climbing Club maintains an online database of all of the local crags: BK Cragdatabase
⬇️ We especially recommend these crags ⬇️
Head to Øygarden, a chain of islands along the North Sea with thousands of routes. Here the sun often shines even when it is rainy in Bergen and the rock dries quickly. Favorites:
Syltøy- slightly overhanging, moderate to hard, oceanfront routes on the highest quality pink granite.
Gjøkeredet- one of the best beginner crags anywhere (really!). Easy, feel good routes on amazing vertical rock. Sheltered from the wind and heats up nicely in the sun. If it's warm, bring swimsuits!
Furunkeløse- short sweet and hard routes on even more flawless pink granite, as well as the possibility to deep water solo or just hop right in the ocean if it gets too warm.
Bring a rack and visit any of the crags at Telnes and Hagenes, our best natural protection multipitch area. Here you will find 100's of (mostly) well protected routes of all grades, good walk-offs, and some of the oldest routes in Bergen.
Hjallaveggen - Large concentration of awesome routes. Dries fast, easy access, a classic local crag.
Rain days:
Hjernemasseveggen, Trollkone and Loddefjord are all rainproof crags. Or visit Vestveggen for a great day of indoor climbing.
Closer to Bergen city:
Helleneset- super solid granite slab og vertical climbing right on the ocean with grades for everyone and several classic lines. Great swimming!
Loddefjord- steep overhanging, almost always dry, with many hard local test-pieces. Bring your pump.
Winter climbing:
Waterfall ice climbing- We have waterfalls everywhere, if its cold, find one and go! Lærdal, Nærøydalen and Aurlandsdalen are particularly spectacular.
Alpine multi-pitch
Facebook group "Klatring i Uskedalen" Lot's of info and updates on conditions
Local tip: most people experience the climbing in Uskedalen as hard for the grad, or perhaps just serious. Either way, start easy and get your slab head on.
Route suggestions:
Silkeveien, 6 pitches, 4+, great easy introduction to climbing in Uskedalen
Jomfruer i Nød, 3 pitches, 4+, another great introduction to the climbing here, with bolted belay stations to ease your way.
En Midtsommernattsdrøm, 12 pitches, 6+, Uskedalen classic and a hand crack wonderland. Bring your jam!
Uskedalsdiederen, 13-16 pitches, 6-, don't be fooled by the moderate grad, this is a serious climb.
