In the past, climbers used pitons, some of which can still be found in older routes, but today’s mountain ethics are rooted in the “leave no trace” mentality. To preserve the rock in its natural state, the use of pitons is being phased out and discouraged.
In areas like Uskedalen, bolts are rarely used, requiring climbers to fully commit to the character and demands of each route. This approach calls for greater knowledge, responsibility and caution - but it offers a truly authentic climbing experience in the most amazing ambiance.
