Our planet faces enormous challenges as we face the existential threats to our environment, our economy, our culture, and the lives of millions caused by anthropomorphic climate change. The climate is changing faster than scientists worst-case projections, resulting in extreme weather, coral die-off, droughts, fires, food insecurity and crop losses, expansion of diseases, loss of species, climate refugees, and rapidly melting ice caps.
Our Unitarian Universalist religion teaches us the interconnectedness of all things – the web of life. Our science teaches us that the planet is in trouble. Our spiritual faith calls us to take action now, leading our local community by example, and advocate at all levels of our community – from the individual and the church through local, state, and national government.
The Climate Crisis Action Coalition is committed to fighting climate change and environmental degradation by learning what is possible, educating our congregation and the broader community, and leading activities to preserve our world and adapt to the changing climate.
We will make this happen by:
1) Developing and leading actions to lower our church carbon footprint and environmental impacts.
2) Developing and leading actions to empower and enable members of the church community to lower their individual carbon footprints and environmental impacts.
3) Continuously educating ourselves and joining forces with other faith, county, and regional advocacy groups to influence policy and practices that protect the environment and support environmental justice.
