The Climate Crisis Action Coalition @ UUCA

(UUCA receives Green Sanctuary Accreditation in 2009)

UUCA has been sanctioned as a Green Sanctuary by the Unitarian Universalist Association since 2009. Being a Green Sanctuary is one of the ways we work toward a vision of a healthier, more sustainable future. We are dedicated to our Seventh Principle, “Respect for the interdependent we of all existence of which we are a part.” As a recognized Green Sanctuary, we live with a deep awareness of our climate crisis and the deep environmental injustices of our time.

The UUCA congregation unanimously passed the “Green Lens” policy in 2008. This policy commits our ministry and staff to giving deliberate and consistent attention to the environment in all areas of our church’s activities and to striving to make UUCA a model of how churches can help our society move toward a sustainable future.

The Climate Crisis Action Coalition will realize the Green Lens policy and take other climate justice actions that support the 7th UU principle.

The Climate Crisis Action Coalition is committed to fighting climate change and environmental degradation by learning what is possible, educating our congregation and the broader community, and leading activities to preserve our world and adapt to the changing climate.

We will make this happen by:

1) Developing and leading actions to lower our church carbon footprint and environmental impacts.

2) Developing and leading actions to empower and enable members of the church community to lower their individual carbon footprints and environmental impacts.

3) Continuously educating ourselves and joining forces with other faith, county, and regional advocacy groups to influence policy and practices that protect the environment and support environmental justice.
