Peyronie's disease, or commonly known in the medical field as Peyronie's, is a non-cancerous condition that causes curved and painful erections due to fibrous scar tissues that develop on a penis. And while some penises are curved in shape and are of no cause for concern, the curve coming from Peyronie's is a lot more significant and does include a certain degree of pain. According to Cletus Georges, M.D., this condition can easily prevent a man from sexual activity as it could make it difficult for the person suffering from Peyronie's to get an erection.
Aside from erectile dysfunction, Peyronie's can also cause stress, anxiety, and in some cases, penile shortening. Doctors claim that such effects should not be taken lightly as the condition hardly ever goes away on its own. Minor injuries to the penis can cause it. It could also be hereditary or because of connective tissue disorders.
Peyronie's symptoms include scar tissue or buildup of plaque in the blood vessels that can be felt under the skin of the penis, a significant bend in the penis, inability or difficulty getting an erection, penile shortening, pain, as well as other forms of penile deformity.
Like most ailments, early treatment of Peyronie's gives the patient the best chance to improve their condition or prevent things from worsening. Given that penile problems are often topics men don't want to talk about, partners may also know this condition. According to Cletus Georges, M.D., seeing a doctor as early as possible should be a top priority.
