Origins of the stones
Kidney stones are solid masses that are formed by substances in the urine. These substances come from food and liquids. Often, not all waste products are excreted by the body. Some of them stay in the body. It’s this silent buildup of substances that leads to the formation of kidney stones.
Composition of the stones
Waste products made up of calcium, oxalate, uric acid, or phosphate should be passed on easily if a person drinks enough liquid. But more often than not, people take drinking water and other fluids for granted.
Time frame
There is no definite time frame for the formation of kidney stones. Cletus Georges, MD, mentions, though, that it does not happen overnight. This is a gradual process that can take years before people see a noticeable formation. For people who are predisposed to developing kidney stones, formation happens sooner.
Signs and symptoms
Discomfort when urinating and around the kidney area is a symptom of kidney stone formation, so is the unusual color of urine. If anyone feels something off when urinating, Cletus Georges, MD, highly recommends visiting a specialist for testing.
