Anti-Hate

Asian American and Pacific Islander Conference

Since 2020, Stop Asian Hate has “reported 11,000 acts of hate against Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders.” As part of the CUNY Anti-Hate Initiative, City Tech will host an Anti-Hate conference focusing on the AAPI community.

With the increase of anti-Asian sentiment in New York City and nationwide, City Tech continues to encourage conversations to combat anti-Asian hate, to support Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) students, faculty, staff, and alums, and to foster an inclusive environment.

The groundwork laid by the 2022 AAPI heritage month events that helped launch this important initiative and also helped to build the 2023 RAAR: Rising Against Anti-Asian Racism project. This year with CUNY’s multi-year Anti-Hate initiative, we hope to continue these critical conversations and aim to examine, educate, and inform the City Tech community and beyond regarding the experience and challenges facing the AAPI members. We want to emphasize that this conference is a safe space for you to share your experiences, and we value your contributions to this important dialogue.

Our goal is to extend and deepen the dialogue around anti-Asian violence and discrimination through a conference. This event is of utmost importance as it provides a platform for members of the community to share high-impact practices for raising awareness and mitigating microaggression and discrimination. We invite AAPI students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the higher education community across CUNY to voice and share their experiences.

The conference objectives include:
