Your privacy is of paramount importance to us. This Privacy Policy describes how ScriptMarking (the "Application" or "App"), developed by Tak Fai Chung, handles your information.
Our Application is built on a privacy-first, on-device architecture. We do not operate proprietary databases, web servers, or analytical systems to harvest your data. Your teaching materials, student records, and grading documents remain entirely under your control.
By default, all data you input into the Application—including student rosters, exam PDFs, cut parameters, grading annotations, marks, preset comments, and custom badges—is stored locally and securely on your device's filesystem. We do not have access to any of this data.
To allow you to use your data seamlessly across multiple platforms (such as your iPad and Mac) using the same Apple ID, the Application is enabled to store and synchronize your marking data in your personal iCloud account.
iCloud Container: Your data is synced to your private iCloud container.
Security & Access: All data transmission, storage, and encryption are managed securely by Apple's iCloud infrastructure. Your data is tied strictly to your personal Apple ID.
Our Access: We do not collect, intercept, or maintain any access to the information stored in your iCloud account. We cannot recover, modify, or delete any data saved in your iCloud container.
ScriptMarking utilizes Apple's native, on-device Vision framework and text recognition technologies to identify question numbers and segment student exam PDFs.
All PDF parsing, image slicing, and OCR operations are executed entirely on your local device.
No document pages, scanned exam scripts, or extracted text are uploaded to our servers or any third-party APIs for processing.
The Application offers optional integrations with third-party platforms to enhance your grading workflow. If you choose to use these integrations, your data is processed as follows:
If you optionally sign in with your Google Account to synchronize student rosters or upload graded exam scripts:
All communication with Google APIs occurs directly from the App on your device to Google’s servers.
Graded PDFs are uploaded directly to your own Google Drive storage, and numerical marks are synced directly to your Google Classroom Gradebook.
We do not collect, store, or transmit your Google account credentials, token keys, student roster details, or grading outputs to any proprietary server or third party.
The Application uses Apple’s secure StoreKit framework to manage the one-time premium upgrade purchase. All payment processing and transaction verifications are securely handled directly by Apple. We never collect, store, or have access to your financial or credit card information.
Because ScriptMarking is an educational tool used by teachers, it inherently processes student information (such as student names, class numbers, and grades).
Compliance: The Application is designed to comply with student privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Privacy Assurance: Because student data is strictly processed on-device and optionally synced only to your personal, secure iCloud container or your school’s Google Classroom environment, no student information is ever transmitted to us or harvested for advertising or profile-building.
Since we do not store your data on our servers, we cannot delete your data for you. You have total control over your data retention:
Local Data: You can delete individual projects, class registers, or student records directly inside the Application, or remove all local data by uninstalling the App from your device.
iCloud Data: You can manage or permanently delete your synchronized iCloud data at any time via your device's system settings under Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > ScriptMarking.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our Application's features or changes to legal regulations. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and publishing the revised policy on this page.
