At ClassEcho, we deeply respect the privacy of educators and their students. This Privacy Policy explains how our application collects, uses, and safeguards data. Our guiding principle is Data Minimisation: we only process the information strictly necessary to provide you with a high-quality, interactive classroom experience.
ClassEcho operates uniquely as a local hub within your classroom. We categorise data handling into the following areas:
Local Network Communication: When a session is initiated, ClassEcho creates a secure, local server on the teacher's device. Student interactions (such as multiple-choice answers, buzzer taps, text submissions, drawings, and photo uploads) are transmitted directly over your local Wi-Fi network. None of this interactive data is routed through or stored on our external developer servers.
On-Device Storage: Student names, group rosters, and session marks are stored entirely locally on the teacher's device. We do not upload, view, or have access to any student grades or assessment responses.
Permissions: The application requires permission to access your Local Network to allow students to connect. Furthermore, if students choose to upload photos for an assessment, they will do so via their device's local browser, transmitting directly to the teacher's iPad.
ClassEcho offers optional integration with Google Classroom to streamline your workflow. If you choose to sign in with your Google account, please be aware of the following:
Data Accessed: We request read-only access to your Google Classroom courses and rosters to automatically populate your ClassEcho database. We also request permission to modify coursework to synchronise session marks directly to your Google Classroom gradebook.
Data Security: All data retrieved from Google Classroom (including student names, Google User IDs, and Course IDs) is stored locally on your device. We do not transmit, harvest, or share your Google Classroom data with any external databases or third parties.
Authentication: Authentication is handled securely via Google Sign-In. We only store the standard authentication tokens locally on your device to keep you logged in.
To maintain absolute transparency, please note the following integrations used to facilitate core app functionality:
Apple Inc.: Handles application distribution and relevant App Store services.
Google LLC: Facilitates the Google Classroom API (for class rosters and grading integration) and Google Sign-In authentication.
User Control: You retain full control over your data. Because data is stored locally, you can clear student records and marks at any time via the in-app Database manager.
App Deletion: Uninstalling ClassEcho from your device will permanently remove all locally stored rosters, marks, and Google Classroom sync tokens, unless you have manually backed them up to an external service such as iCloud Drive.
As a tool designed expressly for the classroom environment, ClassEcho is built to support secure and compliant educational practices:
We do not build or harvest student profiles.
We do not sell student or teacher information to third parties.
We do not include third-party advertising or trackers within the application.
We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in our practices, Apple’s App Store guidelines, or Google's API Terms of Service. We will notify you of any significant changes via an in-app update notice or via our website.
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding this policy or the data security of ClassEcho, please do not hesitate to contact the developer.
