The goal behind the Two-Factor Smart Lock/Home Security System is to make a safer experience for a home owner! Did you know that with conventional smart locks, if someone has your phone, with a smart lock, they will be able to enter your house immediately. They don't even need to unlock the phone in a large number of cases. On top of that, cyber-security for many home security systems is not prioritized as much as it should be.
Background:
The goal of this project would be to sell this feature/design to a larger company who is currently within the home security space but it is designed to help make a safer household while keeping it just as efficient. This would be looking to work with those people who want to keep a protected home and have a convenient unlocking experience.
Methodology:
I would want to get most of the device done within a year. The facial recognition and the device should be completed pretty quickly like 4-5 months but then the testing would take about the same time just to confirm that there are no issues with the device.
Expected Result
The expected first prototype would be able to detect registered devices and confirm registered faces. It would also inform the user of an unidentified user in front of the device. Later features that would be implemented would be recording suspicious activity such as an unidentified user standing near the device for an extended period of time and it would allow for temporary access for temporarily registered person.
Costs:
The costs would be the price of a micro-controller, the casing around the lock, the camera for facial recognition, a DC motor, and the custom fitting for the lock.
