Next Event: Race #3: Dauset Dirt Dash Sunday 10/5 Dauset Nature Preserve Jackson, GA
The Georgia Cycling Association season includes four races and a state championship race if qualified. A race weekend is like no other youth sporting event. It is a fun and exciting festival-like atmosphere. Attendees will immerse themselves with team tents, music, food, and of course, awesome competition. When racing, we stress to our students that the goal is not necessarily to podium, but have fun, be safe, finish the race, practice good sportsmanship, and continually improve.
While our students are encouraged to participate in the races, they are completely optional. We feel that lining up to race against peers teaches the kids to broaden their comfort zone and to do difficult things. However, we will never force them to race. Likewise, if a student wishes to race, they will have the opportunity to do so, as everyone participates. GCA mountain biking is not like other sports where only a handful of team members get to compete. Everyone who wants to race will.
About 80% of the kids enrolled in Georgia Cycling programming decide to race. Whether a Cherokee Bluff team member races or not, they will equally be part of the team. They are always welcome to come to races to hang out, pre-ride the race course, and cheer on their teammates.
