Purpose: To participate in projects and activities that benefit the community. Members are encouraged to give back throughout their communities using the skills they have learned in C.A.R., including participation in the C.A.R. Day of Service on or around April 5 of each year, and supporting the C.A.R. supported schools.
Program: Learn about resource disparities and work to ease the impact of these issues. In addition, participate in the Annual C.A.R. Day of Service as a direct way to give your time and effort towards developing greater connection across the nation and celebrate our society’s founding.
Ideas for possible activities:
1. Assemble and distribute personal care packages to veterans, homeless, and women's shelters.
2. Volunteer and donate to your local food pantry or food drive.
3. Donate school supplies, clothing, and hygiene products to a local school.
4. Learn about educational and agricultural programs used in the C.A.R. supported schools and contribute to those schools’ needs.
5. Participate in the third annual Founder’s Day 5k with your society members.
a. Consider adding a service opportunity like a highway cleanup to your 5K!
These are just SOME ideas for possible activities for this contest. We encourage and would like to see you create something new and exciting with your society for your submission.

The Charlestown Society is proud to team up with the Susannah Smith Elliott DAR Chapter for a special 2026 holiday community service drive.
Here is how we are putting our civic duty into action together:
Supporting Our Veterans: We are collecting canned goods and pantry staples to donate directly to the Fisher House Charleston, providing vital comfort and support to our local veterans and their families.
Helping Local Families: In addition to supporting our veterans, we are gathering food and monetary donations for the St. Vincent de Paul Society to ensure local families have everything they need to enjoy a warm, happy holiday season.
