I gathered quotes about the importance of reading and wrote each word of the quote on individual sticky notes and scrambled them. Students then used the Post-it App to rearrange the words and reconstruct the quote. This activity promotes critical thinking by encouraging students to reflect on the meaning of reading while also engaging with grammar, sentence structure, and logical sequencing in a hands-on, interactive way.
I designed a STEAM Day Business Start-Up project that challenges students to critically plan and develop every aspect of a business they envision creating, while integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. The project emphasizes deeper questioning, thoughtful problem-solving, and time to reflect and make meaningful decisions throughout the process.
I plan, organize and host a variety of STEAM days in the library for students with various activities including building, design challenges, gaming, arts and crafts, poetry, and more.
3-D Printer
I purchased a Flashforge Adventurer Pro 3D printer for the library. Additionally, the library hosted a workshop with the Texas A&M group to instruct teachers and students in utilizing Tinkercad for design and printing.
I utilize free audiobook platforms, such as LearningAlly.com, that support students with disabilities and reading challenges, assisting them in having personal accounts. Additionally, I assist teachers in facilitating whole-class book studies for titles not available in our campus bookroom collection.
Dynamic Shelving of Library Books
For both fiction and non-fiction book, I allocate shelf space for several books to be displayed with their covers facing forward, which has led to an increase in library book checkouts. Furthermore, I arrange series of books together, positioning the first book upright and forward-facing alongside the stack.
Evaluating Books for Age-Appropriateness
I utilize Chat GPT and Common Sense Media to dive deeper into examining books and their specific content before purchasing them.
