We are excited to welcome dancers into our Casting Audition for Friendswood Contemporary Ballet’s production of Alice!
In choosing to audition, you are consenting to the following:
Dancers and parents show courtesy, respect, and encouragement towards other dancers, parents, and teachers, regardless of the role you are assigned.
Dance is subjective, and therefore, placements are given based on directors’ opinions of technical skills, performance ability, and movement quality, with the overall best interest of the group in mind.
Each year is a new year. Do not expect placement based on previous years of experience. Each audition is judged against the technical and choreographic standards with the overall best interest of the group in mind.
As our program grows, so does the number of applicants. Dancers should arrive ready to work hard, give their all, and demonstrate to the directors what they can do. Please do not audition if you are not prepared for the outcome you may or may not want. All audition results are final.
What to Wear
Please make sure that your dancer is wearing:
a black leotard
ballet tights
a ballet skirt (optional)
hair in a bun or ballet-appropriate hairstyle
light make-up for girls (as age-appropriate)
ballet shoes (dancers who are placing into Pointe 2+ should bring their pointe shoes in)
Dancers are allowed small, non-dangling earrings (NO other jewelry will be allowed).
Should your dancer need a medical device, those will be permitted; however, other watches/electronics will not be allowed in the audition room.
Where to Go
Your auditions will start at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1st, 2025.
When you arrive at Chara, dancers will be asked to wait quietly in the hallway. At 12:00 p.m., the dancers will be brought into Studio 3. Parents will remain outside this room. The windows will be closed to observers as all auditions are closed to the public.
PLEASE NOTE: The audition could take up to 2 hours. Dancers will complete the audition no later than 2:00 p.m. Directly following the audition, there will be a mandatory parent information meeting to go over what to expect as a cast member!
What to Expect
Dancers should be prepared for the audition to begin with center work. Those auditioning will be asked to perform short phrases and character work that they will learn during the audition.
Results
Results will be emailed out by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1st with rehearsal requirements released.
If your dancer is unable to attend the audition due to unexpected circumstances or illness, they will be cast based on our directors' knowledge of them and their age. There will not be a make-up audition due to the quick nature of our season schedule.
Accepting Your Place
It is our assumption that your dancer is accepting their place in the show. If this needs to change for any reason, please respond to the results email ASAP. Additionally, every dancer must return their signed contract by November 15th, 2025.
We are so glad that you want to be a part of Friendswood Contemporary Ballet’s production of Alice. The life of a dancer is a life of auditions. Learning how to navigate this process with a healthy perspective is a valuable life skill. The casting audition process is a friendly, positive, and professional experience that is great preparation for other audition experiences. We appreciate your professionalism and respect and look forward to seeing your dancer at auditions!
