About Friendswood Contemporary Ballet

Friendswood Contemporary Ballet is a semi-professional ballet company located in Friendswood, TX. Our mission is to unite local ballet dancers and heighten exposure to the performing arts through quality performances and community engagement. The company has a cast of resident artists and strives to maintain technical and artistic distinction by supplementing performances with esteemed guest artists. The residential artists are local dance students who have distinguished themselves in the fields of ballet and contemporary ballet. Through Friendswood Contemporary Ballet, these students have been given a one-of-a-kind opportunity to dance among professionals in order to heighten their training experience.

The 2024-2025 Season had 26 resident artists from our Chara dancers, collaborated with professional companies in Friendswood Dance Festival, and had 50 children who were able to guest in our Winter Ballet. We are excited to continue to grow as we move into our 2025 - 2026 Season!

Company Members

Our company members are afforded the opportunity to dance and perform at community events and staged productions alongside local professionals. They will take part in all four major performances and may be given additional performance opportunities as they become available.

Apprentices

Our apprentice position allows dancers the opportunity to dance and perform with the company while receiving opportunities to learn more about what it means to be in a company. Apprentice company members are not guaranteed stage time in every production in efforts to focus on learning and growing as a performer in a semi-professional ballet company.

Auditions

Auditions are open to all dancers in the community in skill level of Ballet IV+ or equivalent.

WHAT TO WEAR

Dancers should arrive in a black leotard, ballet tights, no skirt, and ballet shoes.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Check in for Audition will start at 4:00pm. During the audition, dancers will learn and perform a variation component (en pointe if leveled into Pointe II). There will also be a contemporary phrasework portion.

Audition Fee: $25

Auditions will be held Friday, May 16th, in person at Chara.

Audition time: 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Results will be emailed out the Wednesday following auditions.

Company deposit of $150 is due July 1st

Summer Requirements

Summer Intensive: $265

All company members must attend their intensive. Dancers are encouraged to take technique classes this summer but are not required.

Class Requirements

Dancers must be in skill level of Ballet IV or higher, or equivalent, and enrolled in a Contemporary/Modern class.

Company Intensive

This mandatory intensive is the time in which we set as much content as possible on the dancers to kick off the season and set us up for a successful year.

July 14, 2025 through July 18, 2025

** Dancers will not be called for the full time each day. The schedule will be released the week before the intensive.

Friendswood Dance Festival

This is an event hosted by Friendswood Contemporary Ballet to showcase a multitude of different artists in the community. The company presents a collection of ballet and contemporary pieces during the event.

Winter Ballet

This is Friendswood Contemporary Ballet's full-length, story ballet performance. The ballet invites local dance students and professionals to join our cast of company dancers, resident artists, in a staged production.

Company Concert

This is an event where friends and family get to come and see this year’s competitive company pieces for the first time, our performance company pieces, and Friendswood Contemporary Ballet's dances. This event taking place in January is a great time of celebration.

FCB Collective

FCB prides itself on preparing aspiring dancers for professional careers. We are continuing to foster growth in our dancers by providing them with a platform for creation and choreographic exploration. The Collective is a student-choreography showcase.
