Are you concerned about being Too Tall?
Height reduction surgery is a safe and effective option within certain limits. The thighs can typically be shortened by about 2–3 inches, and the calves by about 1 inch. However, calf shortening is not recommended, as it can lead to cosmetic issues such as skin protrusion and unsatisfactory appearance.
Surgery is performed under spinal anesthesia with sedation.
Each leg is operated on separately, with the second surgery typically performed 2–3 days after the first.
Each leg takes over 2 hours to operate.
A 2-week hospital stay is required after both surgeries.
We use a Minimally Invasive Technique, and scars are generally as follows: One 3 cm incision, Four 1 cm incisions, and One 5 cm on the lateral thigh
These may vary slightly depending on the individual.
During the procedure, an incision is made on the lateral thigh, and the femur is removed according to the planned reduction length. An intramedullary nail is then inserted and fixed inside the bone to stabilize it. The metal implant used in the surgery is biocompatible and fully sterilized, posing no harm to the human body, and it can usually be removed safely about 1 year after surgery.
You will need to use crutches for 8 to 12 weeks after surgery, depending on the individual.
If there is no wound infection, you may begin showering after 2 weeks and return home.
You may send monthly X-rays via email (drahn818@naver.com) for remote follow-up.
Once the bone is fully healed, the internal fixation device can be safely removed, which will help improve mobility and comfort during recovery.
Surgery is just one part of the process—rehabilitation is equally important.
Muscle strength recovery typically takes around 6 months, depending on the amount of height reduced and individual factors such as age, gender, muscle condition, and dedication to rehabilitation.
Rehabilitation can be done at home, focusing on muscle strengthening, joint mobility, and stretching exercises every day.
If home rehab is not possible, you may go to a local rehabilitation center.
While height reduction surgery is safer than height lengthening surgery, although rare, potential complications include:
Thickening of the legs, Waddling gait, Nonunion, Fracture, Implant failure, Leg deformity
(Note: There is no risk of paralysis.)
