Bow legs (genu varum) are corrected with a High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO).
Knock knees (genu valgum) are corrected with a Distal Femoral Osteotomy (DFO).
Surgery is performed under spinal anesthesia with sedation.
Each leg takes over 1 hour to operate.
We use a minimally invasive technique.
A 1 to 2-week hospital stay is required.
We offer two surgical methods depending on your condition. All implants used are biocompatible, fully sterilized, and safe for the body, and they can usually be removed safely about 1 year after surgery.
High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) for Bow Legs
An incision is made on the medial side of the knee.
The proximal tibia is osteotomized based on a pre-planned correction angle.
The bone is then stabilized with plates and screws.
Distal Femoral Osteotomy (DFO) for Knock Knees
An incision is made on the side of the distal thigh.
The distal femur is osteotomized based on a pre-planned correction angle.
The bone is then stabilized with plates and screws.
Post-Operative Care
You will need to use crutches for about 6 weeks after surgery, depending on the individual.
Range of motion (ROM) exercises, including knee flexion and extension, will begin the day after surgery.
If there is no wound infection, you can begin showering after 2 weeks.
You may send monthly X-rays via email (drahn818@naver.com) for remote follow-up.
Once the bone is fully healed, the metal implant can be safely removed, improving comfort and mobility.
Rehabilitation can be done at home, focusing on muscle strengthening, joint mobility, and stretching exercises every day.
If home rehab isn't possible, you may go to a local rehabilitation center.
Physical activities are available in 3~6 months.
Once the bone is fully united, all exercises (running, football, weightlifting, etc.) are possible.
This is a commonly performed and generally safe surgery. However, as with any procedure, rare complications may occur, including:
Nonunion, Fracture, Implant failure, Correction loss or overcorrection...
