This is the way your student communicates (e.g. words, visual system, sign, AAC device, etc.).

  • Communication device is charged and next to student during all learning

  • If using core vocab or other type of picture mats, those are uploaded on the platform for student’s to access

32: Communicative Functions

This includes all of the ways that a student can engage in communication, including: initiations, responding, commenting, requesting, choice-making, and answering yes and no. They should be actively modeled and supported throughout the learning day.

33: Communication Opportunities

Students need to practice communication. Opportunities are fostered by creating situations and utilizing naturally occurring situations to facilitate interactions with a variety of peers and adults.

  • During group meeting time: students and teachers are able to see one another

  • Students have access to chats, video, and microphone

34: Unconventional Communication Attempts

Students may not always use the most functional way of communicating. Unconventional attempts (e.g., yelling) are recognized as a form of communication and responded to with least restrictive prompt to use that student's individualized functional communication system.
