The Rifle Team shoots air rifles at targets 10 meters away. They shoot in three different positions: prone, standing, and kneeling. The scoring usually has 300 points as the highest possible score. All JROTC rifle marksmanship activity is done with 4.5 mm (.177 caliber) single shot target Cross-man air rifles.
There are three levels of shooting: Marksman , Sharpshooter, and Expert. Once a cadet reaches a certain amount of points on a target, they qualify to obtain a Badge they can wear on their uniform that represents their skill level in shooting. All cadets who participate in rifle marksmanship receive gun safety training first and then practice rifle marksmanship in range firing activities.
