MassHealth combines Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) into one program. It offers different types of coverage based on whether you are:
A parent living with your children younger than 19 years of age
An adult caretaker relative living with children younger than 19 years of age to whom you are related by blood, adoption, or marriage
A spouse or former spouse of one of those relatives, and you are the primary caretaker of these children when neither parent is living in the home
Younger than 19 years of age
A young adult 19 or 20 years of age
An adult 21 through 64 years of age
Pregnant
Disabled
HIV-positive
A breast or cervical cancer patient
MassHealth Eligibility Requirements
Applicant must live in Massachusetts and either intend to reside in Massachusetts, with or without a fixed address or have entered Massachusetts with a job commitment or seeking employment
Applicant must meet citizenship or satisfactory immigration status requirements to get the most coverage from MassHealth, Health Safety Net, or Children's Medical Security Plan
Applicant must be financially eligible to qualify for MassHealth, Health Safety Net, or Children's Medical Security Plan.
Medicare is a federal health insurance program that consists of four parts:
Part A: Hospital Insurance
Part B: Medical Insurance
Part C: Medicare Advantage*
Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage*
*Requires a monthly premium
Medicare Part A and B Eligibility Requirements
Meet one of the following criteria:
Applicant is 65 or older and is a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident who has lived in the U.S. for at least five years.
Applicant is under 65 and has a disability that qualifies you for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for at least 24 months.
Applicant is of any age and has End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), which is permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant.
Applicant is of any age and has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease
